Many types of health concerns are genetically linked. This means that the genes in the body of the person can make them more likely to develop that health problem. There has been some talk out there that erectile dysfunction may be genetic. Yet it is hard to get solid answers on this one. That is because so many men are silent about this type of concern. It isn't the type of thing they talk about when they hang out with their parents, children, or siblings.
However, there have been some studies conducted that included married men and their married sons. They were given questionnaires to fill out so that they could keep their identity and matching information confidential. They were asked information about their sex life and their own medical history. There were many questions regarding the issue of erectile dysfunction.
There were some common links found, but they weren't directed only at erectile dysfunction and genetics. For example, 45% of the people in this study were diabetic and their sons also had diabetes. The fact that diabetes is a very common link to ED was taken into consideration for this project.
There are plans for other studies to see if fathers and sons with heart disease also have erectile dysfunction. Yet we already know that heart disease can have a genetic link to it. There is no easy answer though for isolating what can be viewed as information for the genetic link between erectile dysfunction only.
There are plenty of experts out there that are trying to disprove this theory. They don't believe there is any science to explain that there are genes for getting an erection. The debate continues and both sides have some very interesting information to offer. Only time will tell though if there is really a genetic link with erectile dysfunction or not.
In the mean time, the fact that heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes are all genetically linked, men need to pay attention to their family history. There is confirmed data that suggests controlling the risk of such health concerns will significantly lower the risk of erectile dysfunction.
