Risk Factors and Causes of Alcoholism

There are many risk factors for alcoholism that need to be recognized. Many experts believed that some people are genetically predisposition to enjoy the use of alcohol. There are plenty of families out there with a significant history of it. Should you have a family history like that, it is best to avoid consuming alcohol at all. It may not take very much of it at all for your body to begin craving more of it.

The more you drink, the more likely are to suffer from alcoholism. This is because the body will build up a tolerance to it over time. The more you drink, the more it takes for you to get the same effects as you once did. As a result, your body will start to crave more of it and that is what it takes for you to get passed the feelings of negatively that have accumulated. It is a continually cycle that gets more intense as time goes by.

Studies also indicate that the younger a person is when they start to drink the more likely they are to suffer from alcoholism. We have a large number of teenagers in our society that already are alcoholics. There is still hope though that they can have a bright and promising future ahead of them. Early treatment and intervention is very important.

Drinking to help reduce anxiety and to feel that you fit in is common. Some people have very low self esteem. They don't feel as important as others so they drink to take care of those inhibitions. Many people aren't happy with what is going on in their life. They use alcohol as a means of coping. They may be miserable at work or in a relationship.

They may be overwhelmed by bills and legal problems. Some people have chronic pain that they haven't been able to take care of. They consume alcohol in order to help reduce the pain that they feel. Some individuals consume alcohol to help overcome insomnia. Yet these uses don't take care of the underlying problems, they only compound them.
